Board of Commissioners

Sophie Tracey
CHAIR
Seat A
Term Ends Dec. 31, 2024
Commissioner Tracey was born and raised in Kotzebue. She came to Point Lay, AK in 2002 to visit family and decided to start her own. She never left. She is a wife and a mom to three wonderful children. As a successful TNHA program participant and longtime community member, she has benefited from the work of TNHA and has a vested interested in its continued success. She has actively served on TNHA’s Board of Commissioners since taking the seat her father-in-law resigned in 2018. Her primary concern is the overcrowding in her community, and she is a champion for new development so the next generation can enjoy the experience of leaving the nest to lead their own growing families. Commissioner Tracey jokes that it is easier to tell you what aren’t her hobbies. She enjoys sewing, both fabric and skin, crocheting, and is taking her vinyl skills from the wall to prints on shirts.

Muriel V. Panik
VICE CHAIR
Seat C
Term Ends Dec. 31, 2027
Commissioner Panik has been a TNHA Commissioner since the spring of 2020. She was born and raised in her hometown of Wainwright and has lived there all her life. She comes from a big family and loves to help them especially during their whaling feast. Community events like Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts and the July 4th games are a special time for Commissioner Panik bringing her closer to her culture and people she represents. She especially loves to see her community happy during the great spring Nalukataq as they celebrate their whaling success together. Family is her greatest priority and helping them is one of her best hobbies. She says her purpose in being a TNHA Commissioner is to help her community with housing development. One of her greatest accomplishments is to see new development and upgrades for her community.
